About Smorali Art

Artist Biography

I am a contemporary artist, who resides in Kaneohe, Hawaii. I use very bold, expressive brushwork and energetic colors in my art work. My themes either reflect the surrounding natural environment or emotional affliction. I am influenced by the vibrant colors of my Indian heritage and the work of Amrita Sher-Gil (d 1941). Her paintings were introspective, quiet and contemplative.

I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I received an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts in Art and is a current student at University of Hawaii at Manoa studying towards a BFA. My process is finding a theme, then preparing studies before engaging the subject on canvas. In painting I primarily work with oil paint, although I do mix media, watercolor, drawing, ceramics, woodwork and photography.
